About Me

Well .....It's been on my mind for a long time to introduce myself.. but with a budding baby, time is never enough and jobs like nappy changing and laundry take priority. However with over 50  140 posts and over ten fifty thousand 1.5 lakh page visits, I thinks its time for a simple introduction.

I am...... Carol - that's the name my parents baptised me with, I was born in Ruwi Hospital, Muscat, Sultanate Of Oman. One of three siblings. Oman is where I did my early schooling and was also where I was first exposed to the taste for good food. My mom's an awesome cook and is so passionate about food, she has spent years collecting and writing down tons and tons of recipes. My passion for cooking started very early on, just watching my mum conjure up the most delectable treats enkindled this passion within me, and thanks to her, I baked my first cake aged 12!

At the age of 13 I joined a convent boarding school in Bangalore, India where my experience with food was not so good. Made me miss mom's food so much. This was followed by another 9 years of hostel food while I studied on to take up science and then become a Dentist. It was this seperation from good home food that sparked up a desire to start making my own.

After my post graduation I went back home for a good 5 years where I learned from my mom the art of combining spices and cooking with fresh produce to make traditional Mangalorean delicacies, which is sadly a dying artform, with the busy instant lifestyle of today.

I have now have settled down in the UK, with the the two men that I love, Clem my loving hubby of 6 years and Aaron my adorable son of 8910 11 13 15  25 months .

Fortunately for me Clem too was brought up in a household that celebrates food, and his love for trying out new foods and conjuring up his own, sees us tasting and trying a variety of cuisines whenever an opportunity arises.

How the Food Blog was Born....
Somewhere along the way I was convinced by my tech savvy hubby to ditch the pen and paper and type out recipes online. After much persuausion, I decided to give it a go, and have not looked back. A few months later I shared these recipes with close family and friends and have now opened these treasured recipes to the world. It is so satisfying to receive emails, messages and comments from tummy happy friends known and unknown, it only makes all this effort worthwhile.

The Name....."Tickle My Senses: A Mangalorean Food Blog" ?
I named my blog "Tickle My Senses" as eating is not only for the tastebuds, but a beautiful sight for the eyes, lovely aromas for the nose, the sounds of biting into foods and the accompanying sighs for the ears, and the feel of food to the touch, makes the experience complete. I wanted my blog to reach out to all Mangalorean food lovers and so added " A Mangalorean Food Blog" .

This blog has become for me a means of sharing my past, present and future experiences and experiments . A record for me and my children for later in life. In the process I am enthusiatic to learn something new every day.

Today, I feel quite proud with every new entry that I make onto to the blog and aspire for the blog one day to grow bigger.

All the recipes you find on my blog have been tried and tested in my kitchen. Most of them have been passed down to me from my mom , grand mom, family, friends or are my own creations in times of need. Some have been taken from old recipe books, magazines or online, and in all such cases a mention of such is made.

I appreciate all your feedback and comments and will try to reply to any queries as soon as I can. If there is any recipe you would like, thats not already published on my blog feel free to drop me a line on my email, or leave me a comment, and I shall do my best to publish it .

I hope you have a great time going through my blog and for all you adventurous food lovers out there, here is a chance to "Tickle Your Senses"

Yours in Taste,

Carol Sequeira Pereira.
